When planning our trip to Bora Bora we joined a Facebook group to get help and ideas from fellow travelers. In the months before our departure, we made purchases here and there to prepare ourselves. So here is our must-have list!
Nothing would be worse than going to paradise, especially to celebrate a new marriage or anniversary, and you lose your wedding band. Leave the real thing at home and enjoy your excursions in the ocean and beyond! We made sure to have these on our fingers on Day One.
Forget all your worries and tie these floats to your over-water bungalow for hours of relaxation. Includes a drink holder and a canopy to lessen your sun exposure.
You want to be able to keep all your electronics charged, especially if you use them to take all the fantastic scenery shots! We bought one for each of us to have on each side of our bed. Having two chargers allowed us to charge our phone and iWatch each evening. A third would have been helpful to charge our battery power bank, wireless speaker, and power our Roku streaming stick.
In the evening, when it gets dark, and you need some wind-down entertainment, everything on your resort tv will be in French. If learning to translate isn’t your thing, consider bringing this or something similar!
I took many photos while my husband scooted around the islands we visited. It killed my phone’s battery. With this charger, I could charge my phone while I used my husband’s. It stores enough power to charge your phone twice!
6. Travel Electronics Organizer
This case is a great way to organize all your travel charging cord needs. Also, there is enough room to store the power bank.
7. Dedicated travel power cords
We now leave our power cords at home, so we never have to doubt whether we have a phone or watch chargers. They stay in the pouch and are stored with our luggage when we aren’t traveling.
These were great when a sandal wasn’t appropriate for excursions or hubby needed more formal shoes.
9. Women’s Flip Flops with Arch Support
I bought these for a wedding, fell in love with their comfort, and have bought several pairs in other colors ever since. They also come with a toe ring!
10. Men’s casual summer shorts
When he wasn’t wearing his swim trunks, these could be dressed up or not for when you go out for a meal or leave your bungalow for an excursion.
If you live in a colder climate, these are perfect for traveling. We left MN with 18” of snow falling, which was cold. If we had dressed for warmth in MN, we would have been too hot when we landed in Tahiti. These pants are lightweight enough not to overheat while still giving your legs coverage.
Saving the reef is vital for the survival of this stunning destination. You may need more or less depending on how many water activities you will be doing.
13. Sunscreen
Reef-safe sunscreen is expensive; if you are fair-skinned, reapplying is a must. We would have run out too soon if I had only relied on the reef safe I purchased!
Whether on a jet ski excursion, scuba diving, or just hanging out on the beach, this is a necessity if you have valuables you need to keep dry. Also included is a waterproof phone sleeve. There are several sizes and colors to meet your needs.
Did I mention yet that I am fair-skinned?!? I planned on spending most of my time in the sun/water, so I bought three to cover myself and minimize the areas of my body needing more sunscreen. These were awesome as they were long and nearly a dress length, great for the trip from the beach to the bungalow.
16. Women’s high wasted swim bottoms
Although I brought two swimsuits, I bought extra bottoms to pair with my rash guards. I am 5’4” and weigh 155, and I got the mediums because I wanted more tummy control.
17. Men’s rash guard
Even though my husband isn’t nearly as pasty as I am, he must still protect his skin.
Because I don’t know about you, but this mom doesn’t like sharing her markers, and I don’t get many opportunities to color when the kids are around!
19. Art markers
If you’re going to color, you need a medium! This set comes in a nice case to keep them organized.
20. Crossbody Sling
When hustling through the airports or on a scooter, keep your essential items at arm’s reach. I wore a backpack on my back and a sling on my front.
Hubby took this for his scuba diving excursion and jet skiing.
22. Waterproof Cellphone Pouch
Our dry bag came with one, but we needed an extra one to protect our phones. We used them on any power equipment to keep our cameras accessible and safe.

I’m looking forward to seeing all your photos. One at a time and all together.
